Three newly-discovered M-dwarf companions of Solar Neighbourhood stars
We present low-resolution spectroscopy of newly-discovered candidate companions to three stars in the Solar Neighbourhood. All three companions are M dwarfs, with spectral types ranging from M4 to M9.5. In two cases, G85-55‘B’ (M6) and G87-9‘B’ (M4), we have circumstantial evidence from spectroscopy, photometry and limited astrometry Portions of the data presented here were obtained at the W.M....
متن کاملHalo stars in the immediate solar neighbourhood
We have searched the Fourth Catalogue of Nearby Stars for halo stars and identified 15 subdwarfs and a high velocity white dwarf in the solar neighbourhood. This searchwasmotivated mainly by the recent determinations of MACHOmasses of about 0.5M , which are typical for halo dwarfs. The local mass density of these stars is 1.5·10−4M pc−3, which is only 3% of the current estimate of the local mas...
متن کاملClump Stars in the Solar Neighbourhood
Hipparcos data has allowed the identification of a large number of clump stars in the Solar Neighbourhood. We discuss our present knowledge about their distributions of masses, ages, colours, magnitudes, and metallicities. We point out that the age distribution of clump stars is “biased” towards intermediate-ages. Therefore, the metallicity information they contain is different from that provid...
متن کاملFundamental Parameters of Massive Stars
We discuss the determination of fundamental parameters of ‘normal’ hot, massive OB-type stars, namely temperatures, luminosities, masses, gravities and surface abundances. We also present methods used to derive properties of stellar winds – mass-loss rates and wind velocities from early-type stars.
متن کاملHIPPARCOS age-metallicity relation of the solar neighbourhood disc stars
We derive age-metallicity relations (AMRs) and orbital parameters for the 1658 solar neighbourhood stars to which accurate distances are measured by the HIPPARCOS satellite. The sample stars comprise 1382 thin disc stars, 229 thick disc stars, and 47 halo stars according to their orbital parameters. We find a considerable scatter for thin disc AMR along the one-zone Galactic chemical evolution ...
